He was a Lance Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, The Cameronians in 1933. In 1939, he was awarded the General Service Medal and Palestine Clasp of the Cameronians Regiment for his service in Palestine 1936-1939. At this stage in his military career he was a Sergeant. His final rank was that of Major.

At their marriage Albert Edwin was a Lance Corporal. Mary was stated to be aged 21 on the Marriage Register, but would actually have been aged 20. Albert's mother is stated to be Mary BLABER nee FUNNELL.
They²⁴¹² lived at 537 Seaside in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England in 1965–1970.^3707,3708 Mary Philomena GALLACHER³⁷⁰⁵ was born on 18 February 1913 in Glasgow, Scotland.³⁷⁰⁹ In 1933 she was a Domestic Servant.³⁷⁰⁵ She lived at St Elmo's, Colquhoun Drive in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland in 1933.³⁷⁰⁵ Mary lived at Seaside in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England from 1950 to 2007. She died on 6 February 2008 at the age of 94 in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. She was buried on 26 February 2008 in Aldershot Crematorium, Aldershot, Hampshire, England.
