He lived at 16 Bedford Square in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England in 1911.2038 In 1911 Samuel was a Labourer.2038 In 1914 he was a Miner Banksman.3164 He served in the Army between 28 September 1914 and 4 December 1914.3161 He enlisted as a Private in the Army Reserve in the 13th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters. His Service Number was 7600. He was discharged the following December as 'not likely to become an efficient soldier' - 'physically unfit for further war service'.
Samuel was described as 5'-2" tall; grey eyes; brown hair; a strong sturdy man on 28 September 1914.3164 He served in the Army from 24 June 1916 to 16 August 1916.3162 Samuel re-enlisted in Derby as a Private in the Army in the 5th Lincoln Regiment. His Service Number was 5682. He was discharged the following August as again 'not likely to become an efficient soldier' - 'physically unfit for further war service', and suffering from several epileptic fits.

Mr Samuel BLABER, 51, of 19, Newbury Street, was riding a bicycle in Castle Boulevard on Saturday night when he came into collision with a motor car belonging to Mr W E SMITH, of 4, Trafalgar Road, Beeston. His injuries consisted of a lacerated head. [He was admitted to Nottingham General Hospital].

In 1939 he was a General Dealer.3163 He died about 1951 at the age of 67.118 Both the father Samuel Blaber & the mother Annie Dennis were present at the time of registration of Samuel's birth, this acknowledges the fact that the couple were not married at this time!

Samuel was also in the army The Sherwood Forresters. Going by his pension records now released on line at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/
He was invalided out in 1910 re-enlisted 1914, discharged to the reserves 1915, called up & served in the Leicester Rgt, medically discharged 1916.
I will endeavour to research further into his army career.
Amongst the said papers is an affiliation order of maintenance for the up keep of a child!
The order was made in respect of a child born 16th August 1910.(No name or sex of the child is given)
The payment was to be paid to a Mrs J Clarke, 11 Willoughby Street Nottingham.(I assume this to be the mother of the child)
I have written to the Nottinghamshire County Record Office, in the hope more info is recorded and is held there.

Miss Mary Jane CLARKE3164 lived at 11 Willoughby Street, New Lenton in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England between 1910 and 1914.3164 During Samuel's spell in the Army in 1910 he was ordered by the Magistrates Court to pay Miss Clarke two shillings per week for the upkeep of his son Alexander. Druring his spell in the Army Reserves in 1914, his pay was deducted by four pence per day and this was forwarded to Miss Clarke for the upkeep of Alexander.

At her marriage to Samuel, her surname was Bland her condition was a Widow.
