"Miss B M BLABER
The ladies' beauty contest, which is a popular feature of Mr Ballard Brown's concert season at the Grove Summer Pavilion, was held on Friday, and a Tunbridge Wells lady was awarded the first prize in the person of Miss Beatrice Martin BLABER, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward BLABER, of St James' Road. There was a crowded audience present, and the "Qualities" Concert Party gave a capital entertainment. During the evening Mr Ballard Brown invited lady competitors to appear on the stage, and eleven accepted the invitation. Each was presented in turn, and the audience, after careful judging, gave a large majority in favour of Miss BLABER, the result being greeted with load applause. Mr Ballard Brown presented the successful competitor with a handsome gold wristlet watch. Miss BLABER thanked the audience for awarding her the first prize and modestly remarked that she did not know before that the residents of Tunbridge Wells had such bad eyesight (laughter).
