126. Oliver John BLABER148,726 was born about 1927.727 He was involved in a very serious accident at work on 2 July 1956. The following is from The Cochocton Tribune dated 2 July 1956:
"RADIATION FEARED AFTER FOLLOWING BLAST
New York - A violent chemical explosion shattered a laboratory engaged in research for the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) today, injuring at least six persons and creating a danger of possible radiation exposure for scores of others.
The AEC dispatched a team of investigators to the Sylvania Electric Company's Bayside plant to check on whether radioactive materials had been exposed by the blast.
Some 50 firemen and 20 policemen who had been active at the scene were detained for radiation examination.
Police said two explosions in a second floor laboratory of the plant's metallurgy building collapsed one wall shattered many windows in the building.
A spokesman for Sylvania said the explosion was chemical, not nuclear, in origin.
Authorities said two of the six Sylvania employees injured were in a serious condition at Flushing Hospital. They were identified as Oliver Blaber, 29, who suffered a penetrating chest wound, and Santos Azzarello, 27. Azzarello was found pinned beneath a window frame."
He died on 8 August 1956 at the age of 29 in Flushing, Queens, New York, USA.726 Oliver was buried on 11 August 1956 in Flushing, Queens, New York, USA.726 Funeral and Requiem Mass was at St Luke's Roman Catholic Church. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery.
