He was admitted by R T TUBBS, and his age was stated as 62 (he would actually have been aged 60). In the 1881 Census, he was also described as a 'Pauper Inmate'. He lived at 18 Orcus Street in Marylebone, London, England in 1871.92 James was a lodger at the home of Ann ARBER (Widow - 69, Domestic Servant). This may have been a temporary move from the Workhouse. In 1871 James was a Coachman.93 The census has (James) William's occupation as Domestic Servant, and Ann ARBER's as Coachman. These are clearly reversed as indicated by the checker's note. In 1881 he was a Horsekeeper.94 In 1883 he was in Stableman - Marylebone Workhouse.4,95,96 On his son's marriage certificate to Caroline DRABWELL (nee DEE) James' occupation was stated as Foreman for Omnibus Stable (Deceased). James died on 11 January 1883 at the age of 75 in Marylebone, London, England.4,95 He was also known as William Blaber.4,95
