In 1891 he was an Errand Boy.1025 He served in the Royal Navy between 1901 and 1912.1013,2329,2330 He was an Able Bodied Seaman aboard the HMS Gleaner at the 1901 census. HMS Gleaner was launched 9 January 1890 and sold for scrap in 1905. She was the fourth HMS ship to be named Gleaner and was a 735ton gunboat built at Sheerness in 1890 as a cost of £51136. She had a speed of 19kts, was armed with 2 x 4.7in and 4 x 3 PDR guns, 3 torpedo tubes and has a complement of 93 men. She commissioned for service on 5 December 1893 under the command of Lt Robert G Fisher and on 18 December left England for the Mediterranean. HMS Gleaner arrived in Malta on 3 January 1894 where she was based for the year. In 1895 she spent several months at Gibraltar and the remainder of the year as Senior Officer, Port Said. The Gleaner returned to Malta on 18 December and was taken into dockyard hands for repairs which were completed in early 1896. She remained at Malta until early autumn when she went to Gibraltar for service at the port. On 28 December 1896 she returned to England and on 15 January 1897 paid off at Sheerness. HMS Gleaner did not re-commission until 8 November 1898 when she was employed in the training of Officers and Men of the Royal Naval Reserve and was based in Gravesend. She served in this capacity until 16 December 1903 when she was paid off at Chatham. The Gleaner was sold on 4 April 1905. He was a Petty Officer Executive serving aboard the HMS EGMONT which was in Malta, at the 1911 Census. George died in 1945 at the age of 71 in Thanet, Kent, England.2331 George William BLABER and Maud Lilian MILES were married on 11 November 1912 at St Nicholas' Church in St Nicholas-at-Wade, Thanet, Kent, England.1013,2332 At their marriage, they were both resident in the nearby village of Sarre, Kent.
