326. Charles Walter "Chas" BLABER¹⁶¹⁴ was born on 16 May 1864 in Brighton, East Sussex, England.^{1233,1615,1616,1617,1618,1619} He was born at 5 Kensington Street. He was christened on 3 July 1864 at St Nicholas' Church in Brighton, East Sussex, England.¹⁶²⁰ In 1881 he was a Militiaman and Labourer.^1621,1622 Chas served in the Army from 23 May 1881 to 22 May 1893.¹⁶²² His Attestation was dated 23 May 1881, and he joined up as a Private in Chichester to the 43rd Brigade. He gave his next of kin as 'Father, Walter, Railway Inn, Portslade'. His army number was 2091, but this was later changed to 2576. He stated that he was 18 yrs and 0 months of age, whereas in fact he was 17 yrs and 0 months!On 19th October 1882 he was promoted to Lance Corporal, and to full Corporal on 1st April 1883. However, he was demoted back to Private on 4th September 1883. Charles was transferred to 1st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment on 1st June 1886, and on 27th February 1887 he was transferred into the Military Police, still as a Private. He served in Malta from 15th January 1882 to 19th January 1885, and in Egypt from 20th January 1885 to 20th November 1885. He was discharged on 22nd May 1893.
He was described as of fair complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair; 5'-6" tall; with a tatto spot on right fore arm on 23 May 1881.¹⁶²² He was Church of England on 23 May 1881 at Recruitment Office in Chichester, West Sussex, England.¹⁶²² Chas lived at Chichester, West Sussex, England in The Barracks in 1881.¹⁶²¹ He was cited in divorce proceedings (#2766) in 1889.¹⁶²¹ Alfred Sinclair vs S (Louisa) - Co-responent: C Blaber.
