Walter was admitted on 1 March 1864 at St Martin in the Fields Workhouse in Westminster, London, England.213 He stated stated to be Insane. On 2nd March 1864, he was removed to Hanwell Lunatic Asylum. On being extracted it was ascertained that he was still alive, and he was taken to St Thomas's Hospital. At eleven he was in a very critical condition, and had been identified as Ernest BLABER, a City clerk, living at No. 19, Curry Road, Clapham Junction."

We can only assume that he succumbed to his injuries.
He died on 19 February 1883 at the age of 15 in Lambeth, London, England.239 Ernest was buried on 24 February 1883 at Brompton Cemetery in London, England.240
