Clearly this is incorrect. He served in the Army from 25 April 1850 to 8 July 1863.^707,1984 Enlisted for the 25th Regiment of Foot, on the 25th April 1850 at Bangalore, India, at the age of 15 years 8 months. Trade or calling: None. Last permanent residence Bangalore. Size: 5 feet 2½ Inches. Complexion: Sallow. Eyes: Grey. Hair: Brown. Marks: None.
On 22nd December 1857 he transfered to the 42nd Foot (The Black Watch).
William was discharched from the 42nd from Stirling, Scotland on 8th July 1863.
He was wounded in battle, and was awarded the India Medal and Clasp.
In 1866–1869 he was a Warder in Military Prison, St George, Southwark. London, England.^{707,1984,1988} William's father had to give evidence of William's age to the British Civil Service. In 1872 William was an Assistant Warder in Military Prison in Limerick, Ireland.^{1984,1989,1990} In 1874 he was a Colliery Gatekeeper.⁷³² He lived at 24 Holden Street in Radford, Nottingham, England in 1884.^{1991,1992,1993} In 1890 William was a Time Keeper.
