ASSAULT IN A PUBLIC HOUSE.
Harry Humphrey, of Radford, was summoned for threatening Charles BLABER, of 5 Prince Street, on the 17th inst., and Arthur Layton, of Radford, was summoned for assaulting BLABER at the same time and place. Mr H B Clayton appeared for the complainant, and stated that his client had been to some place of amusement in the town, and on his way home to Radford called at the Gregory-Boulevard Hotel. The defendants were both there, and Layton began to annoy complainant, eventually striking him a violent blow to the eye, bruising it badly. Humphrey threatened him several times, and said that he would make it hot for him next time. His (Mr Clayton's) client was a respectable man, and he wished this annoyance, which was only a repetition of previous interference, to cease. He had had to complain to the police of the conduct of the roughs, and asked that the defendants should be bound over. Evidence bearing this out was given by the complainant and Joseph Careless.
